Official GED Testing
GED

The GED (General Educational Development) tests provide the opportunity for those 16 years old and up who have not graduated from high school to obtain a GED certificate.  This certificate allows the holders to demonstrate that they have acquired a level of learning comparable to that of high school graduates.  The GED certificate is recognized and accepted nationwide by 95 percent of employers, institutions of higher education, the U.S. military and other training programs. The GED program has increased education and employment opportunities for nearly 12 million adults since 1942.

The GED Tests cover the academic knowledge and skills learned in four years of high school. There are five comprehensive tests:  Mathematics, Reading, Science, Social Studies, and a Language/Grammar test which includes writing an essay.  The tests are also offered in Spanish.  The total battery of tests takes a maximum of 7 hours and 5 minutes.  The tests can be taken one or two at a time, and in any order.

Persons who are just beginning the GED process must first register for the GED by filling out a GED Registration Packet. The packet can be picked up at Student Services Center, located on the back side of the Four Rivers Cultural Center. When you return the packet, you must show one of the following Government issued IDs:  your valid driver’s license, state issued ID, passport, military ID, or Tribal ID, and pay 115.00.  You must also show your Social Security Card if you wish to use it as your identifying number, which is what is recommended.  If you don’t have a Social Security card (it’s free to submit to the Social Security Administration for a replacement card) or choose not to use your SSN as your ID, you will be issued an access code.  The $115.00 fee covers all five tests and includes an official transcript and a certificate from the state. You must register at least one day prior to the day you’d like to test, although it is based on availability. Certain times of the year are busy so it is recommended you check ahead to get the testing date you want. Call 541-881-8822 for more details, or to leave a message.  The testing schedule is located in the Student Services Center.

Please note the day, date, time, and room for which you are scheduled. Please come to testing room early. The GED testing rooms are NOT located in the Testing Center. GED tests are generally conducted in Barber Hall classroom 14, or FRCC classrooms, although there are other rooms on campus that may also be used.

Bring valid ID to every testing session, or no test can be administered.

If you do not show up for a scheduled test, or fail to cancel two hours prior to the test, you will be required to pay $10.00 when you reschedule your test or at the door the next time you come to test.

If you fail a test, you will need to pay $10.00 when you reschedule your test or at the door when you come back to retest. You can retest in any subject up to three times in one year. If you fail three times in one year, you will have to wait until the start of the next year to test in that subject again.  In the state of Oregon, you have three years to complete your GED testing without having to pay an additional state fee of $35.00.  However, all testers will have to complete all testing before the next test series is released, which is January 1, 2012.  If testing isn’t completed by then, testers will be required to start over and pay all current fees for new testing.

You can obtain additional copies of your transcript or certificate for a fee of $5 each. Call 541-881-8822 for details.
