Adding A Gradebook Item

  1. In the Assessment section of the Control Panel, click Gradebook.
  2. Click the Add Item _____ button.
  3. Enter a name for the item in the Item Name box.
  4. Click the arrow on the Category box and select an item type from the resulting menu.
  5. Enter a description for the item in the Description box.
  6. Check the Due Date box and select a due date.
  7. Enter the maximum point value for the item in the Points Possible box.
  8. Click the arrow on the Display As box and select a grading option from the resulting menu.
  9. Optional: Select item options.
  10. Click the Submit _______ button and click the OK button.

Removing a Gradebook Item

  1. In the Assessment section of the Control Panel, click Gradebook.
  2. Click the Manage Items _____ button.
  3. Click the Remove ______ button next to the item to remove.
  4. Click the OK button to confirm deletion.
  5. Click the OK button.
    Note:  To remove a test created in the Test Manager, click Test Manager in the Assessment section of the Control Panel and click the Remove ______ button next to the test you want to remove.  You cannot remove a test that has been taken by one or more students.

Weighting Grades

  1. In the Assessment section of the Control Panel, click Gradebook.
  2. Click the Weight Grades ______ button.
  3. In the Weighting section, do one of the following:
    To weight grades by category, select Weight by Category.
    To weight grades by item, select Weight by Item.
  4. Enter a percentage of weight for categories or items. (The total of all weights must be 100%.)
  5. Click the Submit _____ button and click the OK button.

Downloading Grades

You can download your gradebook onto your computer and open the gradebook file in Microsoft Excel or another spreadsheet program.

  1. In the Assessment section of the Control Panel, click Gradebook.
  2. Click the Download Grades _______ button.
  3. In the Delimiter Type section, select Comma or Tab.
  4. Click the Submit _____ button.
  5. Click the Download ______ button.
  6. Click the Save button. (This step might differ depending on your Windows settings.)
  7. Select the location where you want to save the file.
  8. Click the Save button and click the Close button when the download is complete. (This step might differ depending on your Windows settings.)
  9. Click OK button.

Viewing Gradebook Information

  1. In the Assessment section of the Control Panel, click Gradebook Views.
  2. In the Gradebook Views section, do one of the following:
    To view grades by item name, click View Grades by Item.  Click the item name and click Item Grade List.
    To view grades by students name, select View Grades by User.  Click the student name and click User Grade List.
  3. Click the Submit ______ button and click the OK button.

Sorting and Filtering Gradebook Items

  1. In the Assessment section of the Control Panel, click Gradebook.
  2. Do one of the following:
    To sort items, click the arrow on the Sort Items by box and select a sort option.
    To filter items, click the arrow on the Filter Items by Catergory box and select a filter catergory.
    To filter users, enter a letter in the Filters Users by Last Name box.
  3. Click the Go _____ button.

Creating a Report

  1. In the Assesment section of the Control Panel, click Course Statistics.
  2. Click the arrow on the Select Report box and select a report type from the resulting menu.
  3. Optional: Enter start and end date information in the Time Period section.
  4. Optional: To view statistics on a specific user, select Selected Users and select the user.
  5. Click the Submit _____ button.
  6. Click the OK button to exit the Course Statistics page.

Using the Early Warning System

The Early Warning System allows you to warn students if there are potential problems with their performance in the course.

  1. In the Assessment section of the Control Panel, click Early Warning System.
  2. Do one of the following:
    To create a warning based on grades, click the Grade Rule _____ button.
    To create a warning based on due dates, click the Due Date Rule _____ button.
    To create a warning based on course access, click the Last Access Rule ______ button.
  3. Enter rule information and click the Submit ______ button.
