Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (RN)
Practical Nursing Program (LPN)

General education courses may be taken prior to admission to the nursing program.  MATH 95 or a higher math must be completed and successfully passed with a grade of “C” or above by the application deadline.  If these general education classes have not been completed prior to program admission, the courses MUST be taken in the following sequence of quarters.  Check with Advisor, course Instructor or College catalog regarding general course prerequisites. If admitted to the nursing program, BIOL 231 and 232  must be completed with a grade of “C” or above before enrolling in NURS 101.

Upon Completion of all four quarters described above, the student is eligible to write the National Council Licensing Examination for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN). To progress to second year to obtain an Associate Degree, a cumulative GPA of 2.70 in required general education classes and a "B" in nursing courses is required.

FOR ADVANCED PLACEMENT CANDIDATES:  The first year requirements (above) must be completed WITH A CUMULATIVE GPA of 2.70 (no grade below a “C”) before applying for Advanced Placement for LPN's.  MATH 95 or a higher math must be completed and successfully passed with a grade of “C” or above by the application deadline.  In addition, students must have received a minimum of 3.0 in their practical nursing program.  Passing the Kaplan Transition test is required for students who have not graduated from the TVCC PN program within the past 5 years.

** MINIMUM OF 6 CREDITS CHOSEN FROM 2 OF THE FOLLOWING COURSES: Sociology (3), Cultural Anthropology (3), Ethnic Studies (3), Computer course (3-4), Human Growth & Development (235, 236, or 237)(3-6). Students may take PSYC 235 and PSYC 236 to meet these elective requirements.

Successful completion of curriculum for both years qualifies the individual to receive an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree and to be eligible to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
