Thank you for your interest in our Nursing Program. The following is information about the program and the application process with the required courses attached. We would like to talk with you and explain the program further. Positions for Advanced Placement are based on space available in the Nursing program.
To be considered as a possible candidate for Advanced Placement status in the Associate of Applied Science Degree Nursing Program the following conditions must be met:
1. Applicant must meet all TVCC first year curriculum requirements with a 3.00 GPA in Nursing (LPN program) and a 2.70 GPA for first year general education courses by application deadline. This includes having completed MATH 95 or above. Transcripts from other colleges must be evaluated by TVCC Admissions Officer.
2. Applicants must be graduates of an accredited LPN program, who currently have LPN licensure in Oregon and have recent LPN work experience.
3. Before enrolling in general education courses at TVCC, College Placement tests in Reading, Math, and English must be taken at the Testing Center in the Four Rivers Cultural Center (541) 881- 5798 unless you have completed MATH 95 (or above) and WR 121. After attending a Nursing Program information session, you can make an appointment to speak with an advisor. Bring your college transcript and Placement Test scores (if applicable) to the meeting with your advisor.
4 . The Nursing Program Application Packet may be obtained after January 1 from the TVCC Nursing Office or the TVCC website.
5 . Kaplan Transition test is required for all students who have not completed his/her LPN from TVCC within the past 5 years. The test is given at TVCC winter quarter. Pre-registration and payment of a fee in the Nursing Department is required..
A candidate for the nursing program must demonstrate a personal history of mental and physical health compatible with fulfilling the requirements of the nursing program and obtaining licensure to practice nursing (see "Techinical Standards for Nursing"list). Students are required to have a criminal background check. A student can be denied admission based on the results of the background check. Any candidate or student whose license to practice nursing at any level in any state has been suspended, revoked or encumbered in any way may be denied admission to or dismissed from the program.
*NOTE: Students not meeting these requirements can petition the Nursing Department in writing for an evaluation. Kaplan Transition exam score, GPA of nursing and first year support courses and letters of references (nursing school and work) will be used in this evaluation. The Nursing Department faculty will make the final decision regarding admission.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Prospective students must attend a nursing program information session before making an advising appointment. These sessions are offered each month (there will be no information sessions during the summer or college breaks):
1st Tuesday of the month at 5:00pm at the TVCC Caldwell Center,
2nd Monday of the month at 7pm in the Nursing Department;
4th Friday of the month at 12:00 (noon) in the Nursing Department.
Any or all of the required general education courses in the second year may be completed before you apply or are admitted to the second year. Completion will enhance your application (see score sheet), but is not required. You must maintain a "C" grade or above in EACH course. Seek advice in the Financial Aid Office on how your financial aid package might be affected.
